Christianity in Rap Culture

"If God wanted me to be quiet, he would've never showed me what he does."

Rap music is a highly popular artistic outlet of self-expression. It gives many people a form of releasing their feelings, beliefs, thoughts and ideas through lyrical poetry. Although the role played by Christianity in rap music differs from artist to artist, common themes such as struggling with a religious experience transcend. We will analyze the relationship between rap and Christianity; it will focus on the experience and music of mainstream rappers, as well as the growing presence of Christianity in rap/hip-hop popular culture to answer the question of why the relationship occurs.

Many rappers and music makers incorporate their beliefs into their music. Whether it's to thank God for their fortunes, or to talk about the disasters that happen in the world. Some even talk about corruption within their own religions.

Many also see it as an art, as a way to express their own and their communities feelings towards race, religion, and oppression. There is community within rap, and especially religious rappers.

There are others who use their position to speak about major issues in the world, and about their beliefs and feelings towards serious issues including violence and religion. Which includes their own feelings towards God and Christianity, and also their stance on whether they are sinners themselves.

So, all of these thoughts bring us to ask what some of these rappers make of Christianity, of belief, of why God does what He does, if they are sinners themselves, if they will make it to Heaven or be condemned to Hell. And so, why does rap music often involve religion?
